Description

  • Yoto says: Fun, interactive exercises designed by two schoolteachers to help children learn to read. The Lire est un jeu collection is a fun way to introduce children to language. With its 8 interactive cards, this collection introduces children to the sounds of language, rhythm, rhymes and everything else that goes into learning to read and write. In this pack: What’s that noise? – With this card, your child will practice recognizing sounds in his everyday environment, such as a vacuum cleaner or a dog barking. By paying attention to the sounds around them, your child will hone skills that are essential for learning to read, such as hearing, concentration and sound recognition. Guess this instrument – This card will enable your child to familiarize themselves with the sounds produced by different musical instruments, such as a trumpet or maracas, and practice recognizing them. This activity will stimulate your child’s hearing and concentration. By practicing to recognize the different sounds of musical instruments, your child sharpens his or her ear and memory skills. Rhythms – This card will enable your child to continue his or her exploration of sound, based on the sounds and rhythms that children can produce with different parts of their body. Using hands, feet and many other body parts, your child acquires rhythmic awareness. This awareness is a fundamental basis for learning to read. The active listening present in cards 1 and 2 is reinforced here by a bodily approach. Virelangues – With this card, your child gets to the heart of the matter: the sounds that make up language. Virelangues are funny, playful little phrases that sharpen the child’s sense of rhythm and help develop phonological awareness. Syllables – This card introduces your child to the notion of syllables. They’ll practice chanting and listing syllables using a bodily approach. Moving around will help him to grasp this new notion. Knowing how to divide a word into syllables is fundamental to learning to read and write. Knowing how to recognize and isolate a syllable will help him decipher words when he learns to read. Rhymes – This card will help your child isolate the last sound in a word, and identify sounds that rhyme with each other. Rhymes are important because they highlight sounds that are particularly recognizable by ear. By practicing recognizing identical sounds, and drawing on vocabulary to find rhyming words, your child is preparing to learn to read. Discovering sounds – This card introduces the concept of phonemes. Phonemes are the smallest sound units in the language: consonants and vowels. Together they form syllables. It’s B-A = BA! This card will familiarize your child with the phonemes heard in words, and then encountered as letters when he or she learns to read. By sharpening their perception of phonemes, your child will then be able to decode and encode words more easily. This is the beginning of deciphering, and reading is not far off! The word factory – Your child has reached the end of the road. This last card enables him to learn how to decode simple words like “moto” or “fil”. Understanding how words are constructed is one of the last steps in learning to read and write. Associating sounds with letters will do the rest, enabling your child to read and write.
